Environmental and Compliance Manager

 

Role Purpose

The mission for this role is to ensure that the business remains compliant with all relevant legal and industry standards. You will report to the Operations Director.

Key Responsibilities

The essence of your job lies in the following key responsibilities. These are the main things you will need to excel at to ensure this role is a success.

 

  • Management of all company insurance: building, stock/product, marine, fleet, public liability, employer’s liability
  • Maintenance of industry accreditations including ISO9001/ISO14001, FSC, BRC, Ecovardis and any further accreditations
  • Keep up to date with new and existing Environmental & Compliance related legislation, rules, and company standards, including fire prevention, site inspections etc
  • Ensure company policies are up-to-date and relevant
  • Maintenance of staff training matrix
  • Keep the company’s Terms and Conditions in line with the vision (sales and purchase)
  • Supporting the company mission to become carbon neutral
  • Work with H&S department to ensure a safe place of work
  • Member of HACCP Team and Product Recall Team

Key Measures

Your performance will be measured using a range of key measures. These measures are given a wide variety of names such as objectives, scores, goals, key performance indicators, key performance activities, lag measures, and lead measures.

The purpose of measurement is to monitor and improve your performance over time. Clear measurements provide an unambiguous method of assessing your personal productivity and your contribution to the business.

 

You will have at least one key measure. In addition, any aspect of your performance and conduct may be subject to measurement from time to time. Measures for any given period will be determined by your line manager and will vary depending on your experience and progression within your role.

Key Rocks

You may be given responsibility for one or more rocks from time to time. Rocks represent some form of improvement for the business and are defined as one-off projects with a defined completion date.

General Conduct

In addition to your core responsibilities, you have other responsibilities which are more general in nature, but which are an integral part of what is expected from you.

  • Uphold the company values and promote them at every opportunity.
  • Manage the available resources to ensure that the team daily workload can be completed in an efficient manner.
  • Set and manage team quarterly rocks and measures.
  • Achieve any rocks and measures targets that you are given.
  • Set and manage your team budget.
  • Respect and comply with company policies and processes but work to change them where they are detrimental to company success.
  • Develop your product and market knowledge to a level that is appropriate to your role.
  • Lead and drive the continual improvement process to improve effectiveness of the team and the business overall.
  • Engage with and fully internalise any training provided and use it to become more effective in your role.
  • Drive your personal development though self-directed learning and training in order to become more effective in your role.
  • Manage crises as they arise and follow up with root cause analysis and issue resolution to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Undertake any additional reasonable duties as requested from time to time.

Experience and Qualifications

 

  • Lead Auditor ISO 9001 – Required
  • BRC Experience – Required
  • Environmental Qualification – Highly advantageous
  • Experience with third party Accreditations I.e ECOVADIS , SEDEX , ACHILLIES – Highly advantageous
  • FSC Experience – Highly advantageous
